PDFs are badly broken on Sonoma 14.2

I had just assumed that when I updated to Sonoma 14.2 I would continue to be able to read PDFs and I don't understand how nobody at Apple tested whether that was possible. From a file of comic strip images:

I promise you, these were all perfect visible, normal comics yesterday.

They haven't fixed the problem with hiding Terminal windows either.
