Sharing External Hard drive - fom USB 3 to USB c

Having trouble with extrnal hard drivs created with USB 3 - El Capitan, now needing to use a USB C on Ventura. Makes the Hard drive Read-only. What can I do?

The USB protocol has nothing to do with permissions.

If you created it with permissions enabled on the old Mac, you will need to modify them or disable them.

Disabling them is simple. Get Info on the drive and look for "Ignore ownership…" checkbox in the Sharing & Permissions section. Check it and there will no longer be permissions on the drive.

If you need permissions enabled, then we can walk through a slightly more complicated process.
