Whatsapp Desktop for OS 10.15.7

Had the same problem. The only versión that worked for me is 2.2353.64 which I was able to recover using Time Machine. But this really sucks, every time that WhatsApp releases an update, this happens. I'm using WhatsApp web instead and using the feature "Download App" from Chrome which allow me to have the WhatsApp web as an independent window and right now it works better than the official desktop app for Catalina. I fact, now I can use the play pause button for my music which the desktop app seems to damage once is open.

It seems that while older versions of WhatsApp can be downloaded and installed, when activated, the program automatically looks for the latest update and there's no way to stop it doing that. The result is the same old message that an upgrade in OS is required and since I'm running a perfectly functional but apparently outdated Mac mid 20212 MacBook Air with Catalina, there is no other option but to use the web version of WhatsApp. Sigh.

I had the same problem but my problem was resolved by using another application, namely FreeChat for Whatsapp from Rocky Sand Studio Ltd which you can find in the App Store on your Mac.

The appearance and features are very similar or could even be said to be the same as my previous WhatsApp desktop. I hope this helps.

It worked for a bit but then it crashed again so I decided to use Opera's Whatsapp sidebar feature since the browser is open anyway. Works a treat and doesn't use as much CPU/resources as the app so depending on the browser you're using, I'd rather go for this option.

After working with FreeChat the application hasn't been updated in a while and it's buggy. The best solution is to open Whatsapp web in Google Chrome. Then go to the 3 dot menu -> Save and Share -> Install Whatsapp Web. This saves the Whatsapp web as an individual application that will have its own dock icon and work exactly as the old Whatsapp. Give it a try, it's a great solution.

I wonder, can you disengage from the Internet before running it the 1st time & turn off Auto Update pref in the App?

Hello everyone. I have a MacBook Pro 15' Mid 2014 Catalina 10.15.7.

And I think I found the solution to our problem, the truth is I don't completely understand what I did, I use Chrome and while I was using WhatsApp Web, a download icon appeared on the right side of the Addres Bar, I selected it and then apparently I downloaded as a WhatsApp Web extension/app and now I have like a Whatsapp Web app its not a tab and at the moment it works well for me. That's weird, it worked for me... I downloaded the 2.2353.68 whatsapp version, using catalina 10.15.7 in an IMac Late 2013

Go the Appstore and look for FreeChat for Whatsapp by Rocky Sand Studio.

Buy and download ChatMate for Whatsapp, it'll cost you$3 but works perfectly with any iOS.

No solution. WhatsUp goes to upgrade mode and decides to upgrade or not launch at all .... and break the installed old version with message to upgrade your MAC version.

Better late than ever, open on chrome and install the chrome app ( a little download symbol in the url bar)

Got the solution to stop the program from updating automatically when it opens ! You have to go to system preferences then software update, then Advanced and uncheck the checkbox check for updates. You can now download an older version of whatsapp and when you install it it will no longer automatically download the update.

I also have a MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 and encountered the same problem with automatic updates from Safari. However I solved it by accessing Whatsapp from Firefox and now Whatsapp web is working again! :-)
