Are you sure it's a MOV file? That's odd considering it's a proprietary Apple file format specifically for QuickTime.

You can check the file format by control-clicking the file and selecting 'Get Info'.

Just to add another good media player to Marco's suggestion- VLC Media Player. Plays pretty much everything.

Try with IINA (an alternative player). Maybe the used codec isn't supported by QuickTime.
