.mov file disappearing after rename

I was looking through my stored messages files (since I recently learned Apple stores all of these in the attachments folder) and I found a video from a while ago that I've been looking for. When I tried to rename it (so I could easily search for it in the future) the file suddenly disappeared. I assumed it shifted positions due to fitting differently into the alphabetic order but it disappeared completely from my computer.

For reference, the file was in the attachments folder. Library -> messages -> attachments.

Maybe you deleted the name and only the dot and suffix remain so to file is invisible (movie.mov -> .mov)? AFAIR at least the Finder will not let that happen, though. If that is the case, you could try to open the folder where is should be and hit "Command + Shift + ."
