Big issues mirroring Mac to iPad

I use my iPad for my illustrations. I primarily illustrate in Adobe Illustrator. Because I do not like the iPad version of AI, I use the desktop version, but using my iPad as a mirrored monitor and draw in the desktop version on my iPad with an Apple Pencil Gen 2. I have been having this severely disruptive issue for the last week or two. I mirror it, sometimes it works fine as it should for a minute or two. Long enough to draw a few lines or make some minor changes to the design. Other times it works fine for hours, although that’s pretty rare. And fairly often it doesn’t work at all. I need to disconnect the mirror and reconnect it again and again until it works. Sometimes it’s working fine and then just stops.

the exact issue is. I am drawing and everything is appearing on my iMac computer monitor screen exactly as it should. No delay. No inconsistency in the lines. It continues working exactly as intended (on the Mac monitor, but only on the Mac monitor). But not the iPad end of the mirror. On that end of the mirror, it’s frozen. Absolutely nothing is happening. And it will stay frozen until I disconnect the mirror and reestablish it, at which point it may work again or may not. This is really screwing up my workflow and slowing me way down! Also, it’s not just in AI but in all programs and all functions. All machines and OS’s are up to date. I have all unnecessary programs closed and both machines are the only machines connected to a designated wifi network for this specific use on these two machines.

both machines work perfectly fine in every other aspect. But I need this feature to work correctly.
