Suddenly FCPX is choking on playback, same camera as always...

Today, not before today, suddenly, FCPX is choking on playback. Using footage from the same camera I've had for years and shot many videos with, all cut on FCPX and always fine. Playback on Best Quality never missed a frame. Today, suddenly, it can't playback more than about 15 seconds without freezing.

Mac M1 Mini, 16G ram

Sonoma 14.1.2

FCPX

background tasks disabled

footage on same external drive as always

Camera

Sony A7iii

What I've tried

restaring FCPX several times

deleting FCPX preferences

clearing all cache files on Mac

restaring Mac

reinstalling FCPX

setting playback to performance VS quality (no difference)

Well, seems I discovered the problem. The footage from the camera went corrupt. I tried to copy it off the ssd thinking maybe the drive is failing, but one video file kept failing the transfer. Finder reported it corrupt/unreadable.

Mystery, solved.
