Automatic IOS updates, Charged, WiFi, do not download unless manually done

I have iOS updated set to automatically download and bypass me for all updates, my phones charged and I'm on WiFi. However, every time I look I notice it doesn't download automatically and I'm a week behind each security update . Why

Automatic updates on my phone and ipad are both “on” but never automatically update. I have to always ask if one is availed and then do it manually. Pain in the ass!!! See above. Why do I always have to manually download updates when the auto update is “on”?

automatic update has never worked i have an iphone SE . i have always had automatic software update turned on . and never ONCE has it actually automatically updated . i dont even know there is an update until my apps start to bug out . i know you need to be connected to wifi and phone plugged in for it to work and i always am . i put my phone on my nightstand plugged in and connected to wifi at 9 every night and it has never updated itself . does this feature even work for anybody ? help me out
