New photos app import order

When I import from my iphone to my computer, the new photos app has photos all scrambled. Almost like most recently viewed. Therefore, i am having trouble locating older photos to import because they are so randomly scattered. The old legacy photos app used to show photos in chronological order. How do i get to that in the new app? I need them in chronological order.

Which system version is installed on your computer?

There is no way to sort the photos directly in the Import window. But all photos not yet in your library should appear in a separate section "New photos", older photos, already imported in a section "already imported".

On a Mac you could use Image capture to download all old photos and videos to an external volume to have an external archive, independent of your iPhone. You can organize the downloaded photos by sorting them in the Finder by the filenames to get them into chronological order. You could structure the archive further by grouping the older photos with folders, one folder by year, or similar. That will make it easier to find older photos to restore, and has the added bonus of having an additional backup.

Rather than using a direct connection to your PC, you could try using iCloud Photos for which there is a Windows app. I have successfully installed this on a basic Windows PC and photos from an iPhone were successfully synchronised.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the details of the app or how I did it, and I no longer have access to that PC.

This article might help you get started. Good luck

its Microsoft photos version 2023.11110.6001.0. Maybe I didn't explain it properly. When I connect my phone to my dell pc (not Mac), and I try to export photos from my phone to the pc, it shows pictures in some crazy, random order (to my eyes). So say I just took 30 pictures today. The old legacy photos app would show them all together and in order, followed by other phots on my phone. Now, they can be anywhere, thus making it extremely difficult to export my photos that I want.
