Are you buying data to use on your phone or computer with these cards?
someone told me they wanted a Apple Card to buy data for their computer while overseas. I never heard of this? Is this true for certain countries or is this BS?

Apple does not provide data services in ANY country, so purchasing an Apple Card to do so would be pointless.
