Touch ID option not shown on lock screen
I have Touch ID enabled in Settings. However, if the screen is locked, the only option shown to unlock is password entry. Sonoma 14, Mac Mini with M1 chip. How to resolve?
Mac mini, macOS 14.1

What are you calling the lock screen...?
When login to your account Control Command Q is the lock screen— your touchID should work here.
If you are referring to the Login screen— that is something different and there are a few caveats where Touch ID will not be accepted by macOS:
• If you restarted your Mac, or if you're not logged into your user account.
• If you have not unlocked your Mac for 48 hours.
• If you are trying to unlock Security & Privacy
• If you are trying to unlock Users & Groups Settings (when FileVault is on)
• If 5 wrong fingerprint attempts
If you have FIleVault turned on— you have to get past that...then your user login...now TouchID is ready for you.

In System Settings/Touch ID & Password there's a toggle:

You still need to have a Touch ID capable keyboard to use that option.
Do you have a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID?
Correct. You have to type in the password from the Lock Screen. There's no way around it.
Yes.
In System Settings/Touch ID & Password there's a toggle:
If not available on the lock screen, what does this control?
I didn't realize that "unlock" referred to "wake from sleep" and not "unlock lock screen." Thanks.
You're welcome. FWIW, it's not all the clear.
