Both Disk Utility app and diskutil cli no longer working correctly

My hardware is a 2020 27" iMac is running Sonoma 14.2.

Recently I noticed when trying to run DiskUtility.app the apps window will open but it hangs saying, Loading Disks. So, I went to the command line and ran diskutil list, same issue...the cli just sits there with a flashing curser prompt. I've let both run overnight to no avail.

I've scoured the Internet hoping to find a downloadable copy of the gui app and cli .bin. As I figured, I couldn't find either.

When I noticed the issue I was running Sonoma on a previous version, so I decided to do an update to 14.2 in hopes it would replace both files. Didn't fix the issue.

I have noticed diskutil cli can run other commands like diskutil listFilesystems. This leads me to believe the app it's self is ok but, something is preventing it from being able to list partition tables, which is what both the gui app and diskutil list are trying to do.

I've unplugged all external drives and any mounted remote filesystems. At this point i'm out of ideas.

Any ideas?
