Published (printed) photos have Overprint Issues with LULU Press

I am trying to publish a book of photos (there is very little text) with LULU Press. I did my layout in Apple "Pages" from photos edited and downloaded from Apple "Photos" and then I produce the required PDF that I upload to Lulu. The inside printed photos lack sharpness, definition, contrast, and true blacks. Lulu tells me the “text file has an overprint issue”. The cover photo, which is duplicated inside the book, is perfect. The cover is generated not from my PDF but internally in Lulu from a photo I uploaded directly to Lulu. When I run the PDF through Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat tells me there is no overprint issue. An editor suggested I switch to Adobe InDesign. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas for a solution? It will be a lot of additional work to redo everything.

Interesting. I've recently done three books printed through Lulu, each of which had both text and images (both drawings and photographs) and all came out perfectly. I wrote in Pages and then saved as pdf using the Pages system and uploaded that to Lulu. No problems. There is no 'Lulu Press' though - they farm their books out to local printers, depending on location. Books ordered for Canada were printed in Toronto; a copy I sent to friends in Wisconsin was printed in NYC.... etc.
