iPhone 15 battery drain in Airplane mode

I’ve recently upgraded my IPhone XR to iPhone 15. I normally charge in the evening before sleep set the phone to low battery and airplane modes. The XR used to retain 100% for the morning. The 15 had lost 20% overnight with no use. Strangely it appears it was retaining full battery and then drops off a cliff at 3am when not in use. It has limped to 3pm through little use and low battery mode all day. Frankly it seems almost useless as a device for the modern age! Any thoughts on what is causing this would be gratefully received.

Update your device to the latest iOS version (17.2), then test it for a couple days.

If the issue persists, since your iP 15 is still covered by warranty, make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region . After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Thanks for trying to help but the phone is going back, utter trash. Upgraded the iOS, killed all background refresh etc. Woke with 63% battery after a night in airplane and low battery mode. Tried again last night with updated iOS version and woke with 68%. My XR not used since Thursday night but left in the same state which I forgot to shut down still has 54%. Something very wrong here.
