Video Recording Freezes on iPhone 12 mini I saw an older post about this, but it is closed so I decided to write a new one. I have an iPhone 12 mini that I have owned for about 6-8 months now. I noticed a few months ago that when I would record footage or use the camera app I would get hang-ups on the UI. I figured that would be resolved when iOS 17 came out to the public (I was running iOS 17 beta at the time). A couple of months later, I installed iOS 17 (Public non-beta) and hoped the issue was resolved. No such luck. I then decided for the nuclear option: factory resetting the phone. After a few days (as this problem doesn't happen every time I record), I noticed that it was still occurring. I decided it could be an iCloud backup gone wrong, so I reset the phone again, but I didn't use my iCloud backup and I started fresh. Fast-foward another week, and I still have the same problems. The video freezes while recording, but the audio keeps going. I contacted Apple Support and they suggested that I make sure the phone was restored (without an iCloud backup) and updated to the latest iOS (17.1 in this case). This didn't work. I figured that I could live with the problem at this point. Now get to present day in December, I recorded an important memory that I can't fix because the video froze in the moment. I contacted Apple support again and setup a Genius Bar appointment. I got there and after determining that the normal steps (Diagnostics, update, reset, restore) wouldn't work, they replaced the actual camera on my device. That was last week. I now have the same problem again. EDIT: I am shooting in normal video mode at 4K 30FPS. I also have noticed the issue at other qualities of video and at 60FPS. Back Camera and Flashlight doesn't work after iOS 18, 18.1, 18.2 This all started with the iOS 18 update. Iphone 14, never dropped or damaged. Brought it to the apple store and they ran all of the diagnostics/troubleshooting, including the obvious ones you do before going to store (restart, reset settings, check for obstructions/overheating/etc). We even did a hard reset where they plugged my iphone into iTunes and reset everything. According to their diagnostics it's not a software issue, and all of the hardware is working fine. The alternative they suggested was trading in, but at a decreased value because the camera isn't working. I've seen posts here and on Reddit recounting similar experiences, but nobody has a clear answer aside from "restart your phone." I'm thinking if more people submit tickets on this matter, maybe it'll be addressed with the next update? For context, phone was working fine until the update, and the flashlight or back camera no longer work after the update. The camera can go into front-facing mode and do selfies every once in a while, but mostly it's just a black screen. If the back camera even gets to where you can point and shoot a picture, the screen just freezes wherever the camera is pointing, but won't snap the picture. It's just a frozen image of the last thing you pointed the camera at. And then it freezes and force-closes. I tried a third-party camera app and it worked fine until 18.1 rolled out (both front and rear camera), but now that doesn't even work. If I use the third-party camera app, and put the flash on, it works and I can get photos, but with blue steaks across the image. I do work meetings with my phone through slack and Google Meet, and the front facing camera works without fault, but the actual "camera" apps-- the one that comes with the iPhone, and the third-party one-- don't work anymore. Flashlight doesn't work unless I use the third-party camera app and put the flash on. So all the hardware seems to be in order, but not for its intended apps. I don't think I'm the only person with this problem. On paper my phone's health is 100% (Apple confirmed this, and basically said "huh, that's weird"); no water damage, no drops, no cracked screen or lenses, etc... the Apple Store confirmed this, but have no solution other than "buy a new phone." But why would I buy a new phone if this is clearly a software issue. It may be an issue that wasn't widely reported, but there are people on this support page with similar issues, as well as on other online forums without getting a clear answer on how to fix the issue. Will a new update address this bug, or are we just not able to use our cameras now?

iPhone problems recording sound during videos, possible solution. So I had a problem with my iPhone SE Gen 3, iOS 18, it developed an issue recording sound when recording a video, approx March this year. To be clear, I have a basic level of engineering so, I tested the phone simply recording sound, no issues, also phone calls were made without issue, as were video calls so the issue was absolutely NOT a hardware issue, it was undeniably software. This issue occurs both with Apple software and 3rd party software, but as I said, the evidence indicates it is 100% a software NOT hardware issue. This issue would occur whereby the sound would drift in an out when recording videos over a regular period roughly every 20 seconds, I posted a question and a mod decided to close it when it had zero replies, something I have noticed seems to happen on a lot of posts on this issue, perhaps someone would like to explain that? Anyway, fast forward to today. I was giving it some thought and thought maybe, try uninstalling then reinstalling the Apple propriety Camera app as a test. Before uninstalling I went to the app store to ensure it was available there. Now bear in mind I still had the Camera app installed, yet despite this, when I did find it in the app store it indicated I needed to download it?! As such I did re-download it, I checked my screens for a new Camera icon for the app but found only the original. Since then it seems (touch wood) that sound recording has been restored to my phone during videos. Let me be clear, this was NOT an update, this was absolutely NOT listed as requiring update, this was a cloud with an arrow to indicate it was a download, like an app that you I had uninstalled and had the option to restore to my phone. While I won't say this will work for everyone there may be some, like myself who it does help. In order to find it in the app store simply search "Apple camera".
