How to Fix Find My Location Sync on MacBook?

Hi, I have a weird issue regarding one of my kids and the 'Find my' application on my MacBook.

I have my 4 kids set up so I can see where they are and make sure they are safe. They all have iPhones and the particular issue refers to an iPhone 13. Looking on my iPhone 15 pro I can see them all and the signal updates with no issues, however if I check out the 'Find my' application on my 2021 M1 Macbook I have one kids location that hasn't updated for 4 days!?

All iPhones and my MacBook are up to date and I have signed out and re-signed in of the iCloud on them all, however this has not helped at all...

Also as I have 2 kids with iPhone 13's I have compared the setting between them and they are exactly the same.

Any ideas?

It's great that you've already tried signing out and back into iCloud and checked the settings between the devices.

Here are a few more steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue with 'Find My' on your MacBook:

  1. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve syncing issues. Restart your MacBook and check if the location updates start working.
  2. Ensure that your MacBook has a stable and active internet connection. 'Find My' relies on an internet connection to update locations.
  3. Confirm that Location Services are enabled on your MacBook. You can check this by going to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services. Make sure the checkbox for "Enable Location Services" is ticked, and also ensure that 'Find My Mac' is checked in the list below.
  4. Sometimes, security settings or firewall configurations might interfere with location services. Temporarily disable any third-party security software or firewall and check if the location updates.
  5. If the issue persists despite trying these steps, it might be worth reaching out to Apple Support. They might have additional troubleshooting steps specific to your setup or be able to diagnose any underlying issues.

These steps should help pinpoint and potentially resolve the issue with the location not updating for one of your kids' iPhones on your MacBook's 'Find My' app.

Find My was working on my Mac Mini but not my iPhone 16 for my son's iPhone. The following solved the problem for me. In the Find My app on my Mac Mini I clicked on Share My Location. That opened another screen. I clicked the + sign and added myself from the contacts list. I showed up on the list of users able to see your location (even though the location for me didn't show). My name also appeared on the list of people in my Find My app on my iPhone. I then deleted myself from the Find My app on my Mac Mini. Voila, the location for my son suddenly reappeared on my iPhone (I was always able to see his location on my Mac Mini). I have not had this problem since doing the above.

I am having the exact same problem. I track my wife, sister, daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. One grandchild stopped updating two days ago on my iMac in FindMy. She is showing on both my iPhone 12 and my iPad Pro in FindMy. There was an issued with her phone about two days ago where she was somehow signed out of FindMy due to not responding to updated terms and conditions. After this was resolved, she can be seen on both the iPhone and iPad but is showing location two days ago on iMac FindMy. I have rebooted my iMac and reloaded FindMy to no avail. Other problems seemed to happen on FindMy on the iMac during after the recent Sonoma 14.2.1 update. "Address unavailable" appeared frequently. The only way I go out of this was to exit FindMy, turn wifi on and off, then reload FindMy. I believe this problem is connected to the 14.2.1 update.

The weird thing is that I removed my daughter from my 'find my' on my iPhone and then re-added her. She could see me but I couldn't see her on my iPhone, however she had some issues with her iCloud config. She signed out and in again and then I could see her again on my iPhone. But this hasn't changed my MacBook issues, I still can't see her on that...

Hi,

many thanks for your message and suggestions, however I have looked at these and don't think they will help.

Just to clarify, I have 4 kids iPhones that are on my 'Find my'. I can see all 4 correctly and up to date via my own iPhone, however when I look on my MacBook (which is rebooted every day), only 3 of them are updated and the 4th shows their location 4 days ago.

From this information I would conclude that my iPhone is working correctly, and based on my iPhone all 4 phones that my kids have must be correctly working. Also, as my MacBook can see 3 of the 4 kids correctly, I would deduce that my MacBook is working as expected... So I'm not sure what is not working correctly to stop one of the kids iPhones from showing correctly on my MacBook???

Hi Jim,

unfortunately I've not resolved this yet. I had a call with support, who also couldn't help and that was passed onto 2nd line, however work has been so busy I've not had a chance to get back to them and continue this.

Last update was that I tried to remove and re-add my daughters phone onto Find my, however my invite for her to see me worked, but the invite she sent to me to view her phone never got to me. So at the moment I can't see her at all...

How did you share your location with yourself? When I try (by choosing "Share My Location" at the bottom left of the Find My window) and put in my own information ti says I can't share with myself.

For the record, I'm having the same issue with all my favorite people. They show up fine in Find My on my phone, iPad, and laptop, but on my desktop the last locations shown in Find My are over three months old now. As far as I can see settings are the same on all devices, and I see this when the devices are physically next to each other, on the same network. Find My on my desktop needs a good smack upside the head.
