Sonoma 14.2 Problems Battery Life Time and Heating

Hi all,

I have a Macbook Pro M1 Pro 2021 with 32GB RAM that I bought last year and it was working without any problem until I upgraded to the new version of Sonoma 14.2

My Macbook is getting warm for the first time since I bought it.

Also, my battery is life time are less than before.

Normal usage: Chrome and Word

From 100 to 74 - in One hour and a half.

Before I had from 100 to 74 - in 2 hours and a half until 3 hours.

Is it a common issue right now in the new version?

Is there any fix? How can I downgrade to the previous version?

Thanks for helping.

Will purposefully not suggest Downgrading back to Ventura

That process ( downgrade ) on any Apple Silicon computer is very time consuming and technically intensive.

Would suggest working through the existing issues on macOS 14.2 Sonoma.

To avoid the question / answer and question answer scenario

Suggest the User start with the Top Suggestion and test.

Thereafter,  move down to the next and test again.

Keep going in the Order that they have been presented or until you reach the Final Suggestion

Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

Does the issue present in this mode ?

Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet "  and is  only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer Hardware / Software used on this computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

Is is not clear from your post if this is an update to Sonoma or if you upgraded the macOS from a older MacOS

14.1.1 to 14.2 simple update...

13.5.2 to 14.2 would be a full upgrade...

Shutting down and restarting more than once since your "14.2" is always a first step after any update/upgrade to sort out glitches as the code settles into place.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN

all known to cause issues on the macOS

My MacBook Air 2022, I got last April 2023 now has 97% battery health. Before the update it had 100% health. I’m very disappointed in apple. I certainly think Steve jobs would be very disgusting at the people that took over after his passing. I have always liked apple but now it’s not what it used to be. I’m think of going back to android in the future. Apple just wants your money and to steal build info from other company’s. don’t get me wrong I still love apple just very disappointed.
