Fed ex lost broken phone trade in.

I sent my phone in for repair/replacement as advised from AppleCare. I even took pictures of me handing the package to the FedEx driver and took a pic of his truck number. This was in March of 2023. I never heard anything back from Apple when I logged into my repair status it stated canceled. I assumed it was received. In late Nov my mom was checking hẻr credit cards and had a charge for $1000. She asked if it was me at the time I said no I didn’t think anything of it. Once I remembered they put a hold I let her know I would check. I called Apple and sure enough the tracking said it left Avon where I dropped it off and was last in Zionsville IN. No info after that. Never once’s did I receive a email or call from Apple. Once I called they said that since it was so long ago they can’t even investigate it. I would have to show my receipt from when I bought the phone years ago. Of course I don't have it and Verizon cant find it. i left Verizon 2 years ago. Now my mom who let me use her card because i didn't have one at the time with that amount is stuck with a $1000 charge she was going to use for xmas shopping. i feel like i did everything on my end and cant believe they can not help. She is very upset as am i. I never got notice they didn't receive it, and my repair was marked as canceled, so i couldn't even track it. When i found the pictures i realized the tracking info was on there. Any help would be greatly appreciated this is going to tear my family apart. I would of never sent it in if they would of said you must show receipt on a phone i been using for years and paying apple care. i have the original box with serial number and emails from verizon just not the actual receipt.

Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

  1. Reach out to FedEx and open a case regarding the lost package. Provide them with the tracking number, details of the shipment, and any evidence you have (like the pictures you took). Sometimes, they might be able to trace the package or offer compensation for the lost item.
  2. If you have insurance or there's an option for reimbursement for lost items through FedEx, make sure to file a claim as soon as possible.
  3. Try reaching out to Apple again. Sometimes, speaking to different representatives or escalating the issue to higher levels of support might yield better results. Explain the situation thoroughly, provide the evidence you have (like the pictures of the package), and emphasize the fact that you've been a loyal customer with AppleCare.
  4. Since the charge appeared on your mom's credit card, she might have the option to dispute the charge. Explain the situation to her credit card company, provide any evidence you have, and request their assistance in disputing the charge.
