Contact its manufacturer for support.
http://mycloudex2ultra.local cannot be resolved to an address on your network but you knew that already.
Can you ping that IP address: 192.168.1.40
Excellent idea except support from WD is nil. The online user manual is dated 2016. The links don't work. The device arrived in a box with instructions on a postcard: the link (mycloud.com/setup) doesn't work.
Ok, that link redirects to https://os5.mycloud.com/setup
It loads on this Mac without any trouble, and on that page I can select the MyCloud EX2 Ultra, but that's as far as I can go without an actual unit to test. Are you unable to get to that point?
Initially, mine showed up under "Network." At some point it popped up in finder like an external drive. I think you have to be logged in to My Cloud to see it. I managed to export the "Photos" library from my MacBook Pro to My Cloud over the course of about 7 hours clicking buttons.... For the life of me, I can't figure out how to export my wife's iPhone or iPad. She has over 60,000 pics and videos on her phone... I'm pretty close to boxing this thing up and heading back to Best Buy for a refund.
The online user manual says to download the "My Cloud mobile app" from the App Store. There is no My Cloud mobile app in the App Store. There's some information online about their network being hacked. My inner conspiracy theorist is wondering if apple didn't pull their app due to security issues. That is absolute speculation.
There is a My Cloud Home mobile app but it is for iOS devices only.

That might not be a bad idea. Best Buy may have misinterpreted or (more likely) had no clue about what you were seeking. You might for example be able to install that app on her iPhone and iPad, and it might just work as a repository for her photos and videos, but the "usual" way of going about it is to sync those devices to a Mac and also make sure the Mac itself is reliably backed up. Reliability generally implies simplicity, and from what you describe the "My Cloud" product doesn't seem very simple. I happen to know Western Digital has made dubious claims in the past about Time Machine compatibility, and when push comes to shove and it doesn't work, they don't want to know you.
In your case I'd suggest doing some more research online to determine what best meets your needs. It might simply be Apple's iCloud, which isn't free, but it is specifically designed to store photos and videos and make them available for all your devices wherever they may be.
Yup, I got to there (even though my mac did not redirect):
and then I get:
I have set up an account and can "see" the device.
But I can't see it on Finder:
Any ideas what my share settings should be?
Tried to reply to this post - but may have missed it by a click. Please see my post above for where I found mine - and further issues...
