Bricked iPod Touch (1st gen) Error 1604

I found an old iPod touch of mine from forever ago and decided I wanted to bring it back to life.

However it appears to be 'turbo-bricked'.

Here are a few details about it:

-1st gen, has cable

-will NOT hard reset, no matter what

-will only turn on when plugged in, but will either get stuck on the apple logo, or the connect to itunes screen, depending on what mode I have it in (recovery or DFU, doesn't seem to matter)

-I have tried both an 'official' restore in iTunes (on MANY versions from 8-12, and on many machines from 2009 to 2020) all of which result in getting (what appears to be) 99% of the way through the process and then giving a number of random error message codes...the latest being 1604 (but also saw 1, 5, 6, and more).

-Tried taking the machine offline to install the locally-stored ispw file, to the same avail.

-I realize that particular error code refers to an issue with the USB cable, but it doesn't explain all of the other errors I encountered, especially considering the cable does seem to operating as expected with/on other devices

Any thoughts as to how, or if, this can be brought back to life (as it were)?
