High Sierra download - where oh where are you?

The High Sierra download is available in the App Store, but after clicking on it the message is that this copy is damaged and can't be used for install. Why is it so hard to get this software?

The "damaged" dialog is often due to an invalid or outdated certificate. Try creating a brand new User Account on that Mac with Admin privileges. Log in to that account, and try again.

It will be challenging to provide much more insight than that. All I can tell you is that it should be possible to install HS on that Mac.

I would suggest you run Disk Utility > First Aid on the drive from Recovery Mode.

It's possible there's an issue with the hard drive.

Just a comment, a 2010 Mac is seriously out of date, High Sierra is no longer supported, and many apps and sites will no longer work correctly. It may be time to think about a replacement.
