IPAD Highlighting feature not working

I have a book loaded on my ipad pro and i use highlighting frequently. Suddenly the feature is not working. is there a fix?

Highlight text I just installed ios16. I’ve been highlighting text while reading books using my kindle app on my iPhone 13 with ios15 installed. I press and hold & the word highlight in blue but doesn’t stay highlighted and I don’t see any color options like I did in ios15. I tried while searching in safari’ and can’t get highlight to work on any text. Any clues??????

I've figured out how to highlight across multiple pages! In the old iBooks, the page turned automatically to continue the selection. In the new UI, this doesn't happen, so I thought this feature was gone. However, if you pull the selection to the boundary of the page and then turn the page manually, the selection remains, allowing you to adjust it and highlight or copy the text.
