transferring PC files to Mac
Hi, I'm a long time PC user, finally making switch to MacBook Pro. On my PC I have these 3 main folders on my backup SD drives:
- pictures - all are JPGS and also RAW images created with various cameras.
- documents - most of these are Microsoft Word and Excel documents, but also I have folders containing saved emails created with Outlook.
- downloads - these are executable program files (all for a PC).
Questions:
- I'm guessing that the downloads folder I shouldn't even try to transfer inasmuch as its .exe files are for a PC.
- pictures: under this main folder, I have NUMEROUS sub-folders containing name/date of images I've taken over the years. Can I transfer this main folder plus all the sub-folders directly to the Mac and be able to access the contents of the sub-folders?
- Documents: same question as picture.
I read this somewhere and wanted to know if someone can comment and expand on it. Thanks!!!
One issue you might run into as you transfer from Windows is compatibility with its NTFS-formatted volumes, like external drives and USB devices. This is Microsoft's format, and you'll likely use it either on your old Windows PC or external storage. macOS can read from NTFS volumes, but it cannot write to them natively. However, you can add NTFS write capability to your Mac with additional software.
