Automation doesn’t run on locked screen

I’ve created a simple personal automation.

Everyday on 8PM automation should open the watch app on iphone and turn on the theatre mode on the apple watch.

Everything works fine when launched manually on the iphone but when screen is locked automation always fails. Some sudden error with starting module occurs.

Checked the localisation settings, privacy settings and other but could make it work.

i would appreciate the help.

please and thank you

You do not have to run the Watch app on the iPhone in this Automation. Maybe that is the issue when the screen is locked. Try the following Automation.

Open the Shortcuts app ➡️ Automation ➡️ + (add new Automation)

Time of Day (8PM)

Daily

Run Immediately

NEXT

New Blank Automation

Search for Apps and Actions: Cinema Mode (watchOS 10) (You may have a different watchOS and may have to search for Theater Mode).

Under Watch: Set Cinema Mode ON

Done

Is there a way to get an automation which launches an app to run when the screen is locked?

I created an automation to launch an app at a set time--and the app is also set up to synchronize files daily. So the idea is, early in the morning the app would launch, then it would trigger its automatic synchronization--and I'd be sure it has the latest up-to-date content from the files later in the day when I grab my device and head out of the office.

Well, unfortunately, it appears you can't get the automation to launch on an "unattended" device because the screen locks and the automation is not allowed to run.

The automation feature seems extremely limited if I can't launch an automation on an unattended device. If I have to be present... actively using my device so the screen isn't locked, then although a shortcut can be useful, what's the point of an automation based on a set time? But how do I get my device to do anything useful when I'm gone or asleep?

(And for those who might say, "just use iCloud to sync this content": this content is under NDA with clients I work for so it can't be up on the cloud for all the world to try and hack it.)
