family sharing payment

I'm 37. Why can't I pay for my own purchases when I'm part of family sharing? This is an outrageous feature.

Family Share - Individual Payment Methods Hi I am the Owner of my family’s Family Share and cannot see a way to allow purchase sharing whilst also requiring that each family member have their own payment methods for their purchases. Is this something that can be done? Or are we limited to only sharing subscriptions? You can. Add store credit to your account and it will be used ahead of the family organizer's payment method. Or turn off purchase sharing. Presumably it is set up the way that it is to ensure that it is used by close family rather than a group of disparate friends who simply want to share media with each other.
