Ventura DVD Player auto-launch: how to stop it?

Is there any way — ANY WAY AT ALL — to stop the DVD Player from launching whenever I insert a DVD?

I'm trying to rip some old DVDs, and every time I slip in a disc to start the ripper, the DVD Player launches, takes over everything, hangs up, crashes and requires a Force Quit approximately 100% of the time.

How do I stop this? Is it even POSSIBLE?

I've been using MacOS since 1985 and the DVD Player app in the current MacOS has proven one of the most infuriating "user experiences" EVER.
