The horizontal layout for movie posters are not true to their normal standards and makes it difficult to identify the movie title easily. I’m not sure why you had to go to a different layout standard when everyone is used to the movie poster style when searching for movies.

You can’t. Apple designs it now as ~16:9 tiles, and asks its commercial content providers to supply poster artwork in this aspect ratio too. This has been gradual and expanding over the last few years; it is not new.
Even if only 24×36 poster art is available, then that gets generated filler colors on the sides to make it 16:9.
