AirTags won't stay associated with my iphone

For a little more than a year, my two AirTags worked just fine. A couple of months ago, they started chirping, and my phone started telling me that unknown AirTags were following me. They were no longer registered on my phone. I replaced the batteries and then went through the entire reset process, including resetting them five times. They were briefly connected, and now my phone does not recognize them anymore and they chirp whenever I move and I get constant notifications that say a AirTag is found moving with me. This is so annoying. Is anyone else having this problem, and has anyone found a permanent solution? I’m getting ready to give up and chuck them.
