AirTag Connectivity Issues

I have an AirTag (that’s about 2 years old) that says it hasn’t been reachable for 2 months. It’s in my wallet so I almost always have it near me, but I haven’t been able to “find” it via my phone or play a sound from it. I was playing around with it today to see if I could reconnect it. I replaced the battery and nothing happened. I then removed the item from my “Find My” app hoping it would be connectable again. Now I’m not able to connect to it at all and it’s no longer on my device. Is the AirTag broken and in need of replacement, or is this a problem others have had and been able to remedy?

Ahh, Duracell is "famous" for providing bitterant-coated coin batteries ... and yes, it most cases, it would be noted on the battery packaging.

Since you did not hear the "beep" is another good indication that the battery has this type of coating. Some folks have reported here that they used a very fine grit sandpaper or rubbing alcoas hol to remove the coating, and it worked for them. I can't verify that as I don't use ones with this coating to begin with.
