Trying to open usb drive in finder on i-mac and preferences is not an option

  1. Trying to open usb stick dr on imac and finder does not offer for option for preferences. Is anyone able to provide suggestions?

In the Finder, Finder > {Preferences…/Settings…} (the wording depends on the version of macOS you're running) has General and Sidebar tabs.


In the General tab, you can choose what types of drives to show on the Desktop. Check off "External disks" if you want icons for USB flash drives to appear on the Desktop. In the Sidebar tab, you can choose what types of drives (and other things) to show in Finder window sidebars. Same idea there.

What do you mean by a "stick" drive? Are you referring to a flash drive?

What is the brand, model and size of the drive?

How is the drive formatted? If is FAT 32 there is no permissions available as it's a Windows format.
