How to restore magnetic timeline - disconnect clips

Hi -making a short video with a series of photos set on top of a video. Photos will not automatically connect or move to allow inserting them. Each is individually connected / hard wired to the video. How to do I restore the typical behavior of clips magnetically filling in when you add or move with - without being connected to video?
