How can I unlock my carriers lock

In my settings, I had wanted to install another Sim from a different carrier and under the label carrier lock. Where it tells you either your phone is unlocked or is Sim locked and I was trying to figure out like is there anyway that I can manually do that or what’s the rules behind that?
