I think I found a bug in the all new iOS 17. Even though I have an audio notification for new mail it doesn't make a sound.
i have tried different sounds etc. and yes I have my volume turned way up loud.

Well, Focus is not contained in any specific app. Instead, Focus governs how apps behave, and yes, it can be governed at the app level.
Set up a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support
Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > New Mail. Proceed tapping there until you get to the specific sound you selected. Do you hear the notification when you tap it there? You should.
I downloaded the Outlook app and when I get new mail I do hear the audio sound in outlook.
My suspicion is Focus is somehow involved. Do you use Focus? Have you considered its involvement?

I disagree. Apple’s Mail app provides me with audio notifications for several different email service providers on my iPhone (iOS 17.2.1) and iPad (iPadOS 17.2).
Yup that’s what I do / did and yes I hear it when I do that. All my apps including iOS are fully updated as well.
I hear the sound only when I select it but not when I get new mail from anyone.
All good there.
I have not used the Outlook app nor do I have Outlook email.
Is Outlook your only email account? If not, do all your email accounts behave the same way in Apple’s Mail app?
I only have an iCloud account and I am able to use that account in outlook. I don’t have an outlook account. My point being that it seems to only be the iOS stock app with the issue.
Does the stock iOS mail app have Focus?
