G Speed RAID won't mount with Mac Studio M2, works fine on older Mac Pro?

I’m using ThunderBolt 2 cables with an adapter to ThunderBolt 4. I have two 1TB drives connected with identical cables. They mount just fine. But my G Speed RAID drive does not.

are the drives seen as drives (of any description) in Disk Utility?

The RAID drives do not appear in Disk Utility, but my two portable SATA 1TB drives do mount.

Are these rotating Magnetic drives or SSD drives?

Magnetic

what interface(s) on the G-Speed RAID box?

All connected drives have MacOS Extended formatting.

The RAID spins up, but doesn’t mount. I’ve tried booting without the RAID and then connecting it, but still doesn’t mount. I would get a new high-capacity drive that can be formatted in APFS, but I need some assurance that the formatting is the problem and not the result of a bug in Sonoma.

A drive that will not tell Disk Utility its make&model, and a reasonable non-zero capacity/size, can not be used, modified, repaired, or even erased.

Thank you for your help. The RAID drive mounts normally on my 2013 Mac Pro.

Your power and connection method needs to be re-examined.

I’m using a power strip. Should I power from another source? When connecting to the Mac Studio I use Thunderbolt 2 cable with Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter. The same cable combo for my 1TB SATA drives, which mount.

What PORTS are on the outside of the G-speed RAID enclosure?

There are only two Thunderbolt 2 ports.

Oh good. Glad my brain is still working a little bit. I do appreciate your help and it seems like trying to get the RAID to mount on the Mac Studio is not going to work.

I’m thinking now that I will have to purchase a new drive that can be formatted with APFS. But because my 2013 Mac Pro won’t recognize APFS and my Mac Studio won’t recognize a RAID running on Mac OS Extended, I’m unclear on how to transfer my 13TB of data onto a new drive.

If Disk Utility can not see your drives or the enclosure, the problems you are having are not file format (APFS Vs MacOS extended) problems, they are PHYSICAL connection problems.

It is possible you have a bad adapter, a bad port on your Mac, or a bad port on the enclosure.

I was hoping that a USB port would allow an alternate connection to clear that up, but it will not be possible.
