just set up airtag . My partner has taken to the around 10 miles away but it is not updating the location on my phone. I set the airtag up on my phone and listed them as sharing its location but it is not updating on my phone. Tried turning Bluetooth off and on etc but still no updates. Any suggestions?

You didn't mention it, but does your partner also have an iPhone with them? The AirTag relies on the Apple "Find My Network" which consists of other iPhones within Bluetooth range (~30-40') of the tag to relay its location information to the Apple servers over the Internet. That also means that this iPhone would also have to have an active Internet connection.
Then it may be possible that this AirTag is defective. As such, I suggest that you contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this matter. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page.
However, before doing so, I suggest that your reset the tag first to see if this solves the problem.
