Apple Watch Series 9 import ban

Will there be any issues with the Apple Watch series 9 after the import ban? Will there be any issues with software not working properly? Warranty? Repairs and updates? I understand it is a sale ban but will apple still push software updates for the watches sold prior to the ban?

Hi, JCarizona.

The Apple Watch Series 9 ban will only affect newer sales of the Apple Watch in the U.S., this ban was inflicted by Apple due to patent issues and an ongoing lawsuit, so they have decided to take matters into their own hands. Purchases of newer Apple Watch models will still be possible in the U.S. in third party stores such as Best Buy, etc.

This ban will NOT affect the performance of the watch itself and you will still be able to get the same support and updates as any other watch. As the lawsuit attacks a certain functionality (which is Blood Oxygen), that feature may be affected in a future update pending on the result of the suit.

Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

CORRECTION: You might want to be a bit more careful with your watch, if your watch is under warranty however it should be fine since it is a Series 9 and under the 1-year warranty (or the AppleCare+), but you may be barred from Apple Watch repairs if it is out of warranty and Apple does not resolve their patent disputes.

Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.
