Cannot back up 128GB to a Mac with ample storage. Why?

Trying to back up an iPhone 12 with 127.87 GB on device to my Mac that has ~450GB free, yet the backup fails saying "not enough free space is available on this Mac." Is this just a ploy for Apple to make me purchase iCloud???

To improve understanding of the phenomenon, it would be highly beneficial if you could share a screenshot. Visual representations carry greater impact than written descriptions.

Please remember that this is a public forum, so when attaching a screenshot, please avoid including any personal credentials such as IP addresses, card details, email IDs, Apple IDs, IMEI numbers, serial numbers, phone numbers, order IDs, or any identifiable location information if you are sharing a map.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

Apologies. It has been a frustrating few days since my daughter got her iPhone 15 for Christmas. We've been trying to transfer her data from her old iPhone 12 through proximity and now we are trying to back it up to my work Mac (which no Apple did not make me purchase). As you can see from the screenshot below, when I click "Back Up Now" it shows the phone has 127.87 GB on it, and my computer has over 450GB available storage, so why do I get the error message that there is not enough free storage on the Mac? I'll post the error once I see it again.

Did Apple force you to buy this Mac? If not, why do you think they will force you to buy iCloud Storage space?

Apple often integrates its products and services to create a seamless user experience. The company might showcase the benefits of iCloud within their ecosystem, demonstrating how it can enhance your Apple device usage by providing convenient storage, backups, and synchronization across devices. They might emphasize its value in safeguarding your data and making it easily accessible. However, whether or not you decide to purchase iCloud ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences.
