Weird lines and glitchy parts of laptop screen

I have recently been handed down a macbook air from my older cousin and it has weird lines, both horizontal and vertical. I believe this problem has been occurring for a while since I’ve noticed it when she formerly used the laptop. There is a singular pink vertical line on the left part of the screen and about four to five black horizontal lines on the lower part of the screen. At the start of the bottom-most line, the screen randomly flickers black, brightens white, or freezes whenever I use the laptop, and it is very annoying since it occupies about 1/4 of the screen more or less and it has made it very hard to use. pls help 🥹

Sounds like the LCD Panel is bad which requires having the whole Display Assembly replaced which is very expensive. You can have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate.

If you are only using the laptop at home, then you could connect an external display in order to use the laptop.
