Once you see that message the iPod has handed control to the car's entertainment system, so you should be able to use the car's menu system to play music.

One of my old iPods (a Classic) would occasionally not want to start when plugged into the car, so I would start the iPod playing and then connect it to the car. Again though, once the car sees the iPod, control of the iPod is taken over by the car.

Gotcha. I wasn't familiar with that screen, in my old car I used to use a cassette tape with an aux cord plugged into the ipod, and the control was always on the ipod screen. But in my new car I had been using "USB" and it wasn't working. But I went back and noticed after I plugged it in a new source popped up;"ipod" lol. Go figure. Appreciate the response though.
