Using Data even on Wi-Fi?

I hope you've got it by now, but go into the settings, then Cellular, and at the bottom there's a switch for Wi-Fi Assist, which will make it supplement with cellular data when wifi service is poor.

Stayed on Wi-Fi.

Not if the screen on the phone locked at any time. Wi-Fi automatically disconnects when this occurs and automatically reconnects when the phone is unlocked again.

The phone is using cellular data when Wi-Fi is not active.

When the phone is connected to the power adapter, Wi-Fi does stay "active" when the screen locks.

So, if you don't want to use any cellular data, keep the phone connected to the power adapter.

And....the Tesco "tech" needs more training. This is pretty basic stuff.

even when she turns off hotspot it’s still using data.

I put her a gig of data on tonight and purposely just left it on the table, 2 hours pass and she’s used 200mb of data!!! I purposely kept checking Wi-Fi connected and not once did it say 5G. Stayed on Wi-Fi.

what is going on? She transferred everything from iPhone 12 Pro Max to this new one on 4th Dec.

Tesco who supply the service have no clue what’s going on and their tech said turn off hotspot and if your still using data then we can determine it’s not the hotspot and look further into it.

When the phone is locked it disconnects from wifi, unless you have it charging. It has always been this way.
