USB connectivity malfunctioning after 17.2.1 update

Device: iPhone 12 mini

Problem: USB connectivity malfunctioning after 17.2.1 update today:

  1. Apple Car Play: USB connection is no longer recognized by the Toyota multimedia system. The device will connect briefly after a hard reset but then drops after about 20 seconds. Bluetooth connectivity is still functioning and the iPhone still continues to charge via the USB cable.
  2. Windows 10 OS: device can connect to PCs via USB, an Explorer window still opens and the device's internal storage can be browsed. However iPhone specific apps no longer work, even after a hard reset:

    1. iTunes v12.13.1.3 returns the following error: "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. An unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)"
    2. MobiKin Assistant for iOS v2.10.7: "Device recognition failed"
    3. EaseUS MobiMover v 6.0.1 Pro displays device info (model, type, UDID and OS version) but the Browse and Transfer categories are all empty and files cannot be transferred between devices.

Apple support's advice was to check and clean the connectors on the iPhone. For the record, yes I did check these. I also have tested with three USB cables.

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.
