You may be confusing 5Ghz Wi-Fi with 5G Cellular service.

The iPhone XR supports 5Ghz Wi-Fi but does not support 5G Cellular service. The 5G Cellular service is available on iPhones 12 and newer models.

I believe that your iPhone XR connects to 5Ghz (Gigahertz) Wi-Fi. It will never connect to a 5G (5th Generation) Cellular service.
