Since Comcast required password change this has been happening

Search for your email account in Keychain Access and delete any entries you find for your Comcast account. Open Mail and enter the password.

When they required a password change, did they also require you authenticate their SMTP server? If so, you need to add a username and password to the SMTP configuration.

HI Barney,

Well, I finally called Apple and found that when I changed my Comcast PW I evidently created a second account. Apple discovered that and we eliminated one Comcast account. By the way, my new port is now 587, so your suggestion was a good one. Thank you for helping me. It's people like you who help others that make up the fabric of this great country, and I so appreciate you.

Select Connection Doctor from the Window menu in Mail.

Does it show a green light for the Comcast SMTP server?

If not, Click the Show Detail and Check Again buttons. Don't copy and paste anything in as there could be sensitive information in there.

Look for the section that starts with INITIATING CONNECTION to smtp.comcast.net

It should then be followed with a CONNECTED entry. Are there any errors there?

Thanks Barney for your response. I did look there but I'm not very computer savvy and I didn't know what to look for there. I should add that when I go to my mail accounts and see the servers for Comcast, iCloud, google, and Pop, it has a green light on the Pop server, but shows that Comcast is "offline". I don't know how to get Comcast online again. Today I received my email normally, but when I send an email, I get a message that I can't use Comcast server, choose another one. I choose one at the bottom and my mail then is sent! I go through this every time. I appreciate your trying to help an old guy who feels technology is passing him by!

Thanks Barney,

So I did what you said and I think it is pointing to my port number of 465 not being accepted. I'm not smart enough to tell really. Below is what connection doc shows. My Comcast smtp is red. I went several other places I had never been, but I didn't change anything. Comcast does not allow phone calls in support any longer or I just can't find it on their web site. I may have to call Apple and see if they can see my computer and maybe guide me. You've been a real help, and I think we are getting closer. I'm glad you are interested in helping me.
