Converting cassettes to mp3

I have an iMac 24" Apple M1 Chip, Sonoma 14.1.2. Using a USB, I'd like to convert cassettes to MP3. What cassette converter works well with this iMac?

Cassette tapes to Garageband I must be doing something basically, fundamentally wrong, but I cannot figure out what it is. I want to transfer some old audio cassettes to my iMac (or MacBook Air). I am using a Yamaha tape deck to play the tapes. I have a connecting cable to go from the Yamaha RCA output jacks to a USB A plug for the back of my iMac. (I also have a connecting cable to go from the RCA output jacks to a USB C plug in my MacBook Air.) I have also tried a headphones jack on the Yamaha deck to a USB A connection on the iMac. I can see that Garageband recognizes both of these inputs. I can monitor the sound from the tape deck in Garageband, but there is no signal that is being recorded. When I press the Record button I only get a single empty line of audio input. I have also tried sending audio output through to my Marantz receiver/amplifier and connecting THOSE outputs (RCA or headphones jack) to Garageband, with the same result. What bizarre newbie mistake am I making?

How do I convert an AAC audio file into an MP3? I’ve been asked to perform at a show and have to provide MP3 of the music. The music is on a CD and is in AAC format. I have permission to perform to the music on the CD. Apple Support says to convert music files using Music/Settings but there is no such option on my Music App? I am using an IMac 24” M1 (running Monterey). Advice on resolving this issue would be much appreciated

Transferring Cassette audion to my MacBook Pro Garage Band I have over 75 cassettes from the 70s and 80s. I have radio shows I was involved in, promotional work with radio stations, and various artists.Also, my music from my recording in the studios. My Technics receiver, cassette/recorder, and turntable still the best. I bought back in 1978. They do not make electronics like this anymore. I wanted to use my Technics to transfer my tapes to my 2020 macBook Pro, using my Garage Band. I can not find a adapter for my Technics. It has 4 plug ins, 2 white, 2 red, that plugs into a adapter then that plugs into my USB adapter on my Mac. Do you know where I can find the adapter for my Technics? Those on line and Amazon does not have the 4 plug ins, all the same. Thank you.

There are portable cassette players on Amazon that feature the ability to convert audio recordings on cassettes to MP3 files. A lot of them store the MP3 files on SD-family memory cards or on USB flash drives.

Another possibility might be to use a USB sound card to digitize the analog output from a regular cassette player.

I'm not sure what would get you the best sound quality, especially if your cassettes used things like Dolby B and C noise reduction for which support is often missing on today's cassette decks.
