If I delete the Focus "feature," can I restore that "feature" later?

This question was asked once before*, but the respondent felt the need to state that Focus was not an application that could be deleted, with the point being that it was not an application in and of itself. That misses the functional point that the user was attempting to get clarification on. So let me state this question more succinctly:

IF the Focus "feature" is "deleted" by the iPhone user, can that user reactivate it, or will restoration of this feature (again, not an app) be possible without a thorough reset of the iPhone O/S?

Frankly, I find the whole Focus feature confusing. I want to hear all of my text notifications and am annoyed that I see the following text below threads of texts from certain users.

"USER has notifications silenced."

I never silenced notifications. I never selected any particular user's texts to be silenced.

This confusion seems to have started with the latest of two updates to iOS 17. I have the FOCUS "feature" turned OFF but I still receive these banners telling me that I have these notifications silenced, and I don't want them silenced.

So...

Will deleting the FOCUS "feature" solve my problem? If I want to reactivate/restore this feature, will I wind up banging my head against the wall because that won't be possible?

What a can of worms!

You cannot delete the Focus feature. Period. It is on your phone whether you like it or not. What you CAN do is delete all Focus settings except for Do Not Disturb.

To simplify Focus, do these steps ONCE:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Focus
  • Tap on any Focus settings that you will never use and remove them (you can add them back later if you change your mind, and even create new, custom ones)
  • Tap Do Not Disturb
  • Tap People
  • Tap Allow Notifications From
  • If anyone is listed who should not call you when DND is on delete them; if you don’t want any calls from anyone, any time, delete all people
  • Tap the dropdown next to Allow Calls From and choose Allowed People Only
  • Optionally, tap on Apps, then Allow Notifications From and don’t add any apps.

All of the above is a one-time setup. After that, turn DND on or off with the Control Center button next to the word Focus. You can optionally set one or more schedules by going to:

Settings/Focus/Do Not Disturb/Set a Schedule.
