Apple Mail destroys emails: «This message has no content»

This issue keeps occurring from time to time with Apple Mail and on a standard iCloud email account: An email arrives and shows no content. It only says «This message has no content». The email seems ultimately destroyed and shows the same missing content everywhere: On the Mac, on the iPhone, as well as on iCloud Mail in the browser on Mac and Windows.

  • Looking at all the reports dating back to at least 2019, how can Apple not fix this issue since years when potentially important emails keep getting destroyed?
  • The suggested solution to disable «Protect Mail Activity» under Privacy doesn't recover the affected emails in my case. Why would Apple keep this feature if it potentially keeps destroying emails and damages Apple's reputation to reliably deliver emails?
  • Are there any recovery tools available?

I was able to reproduce the issue with an auto-reply email that always ends up in the spam folder. In all cases, those emails sent from a Microsoft account have no content. I suspect that Apple's spam detection is causing the issue by somehow removing all content from the email.

I used Mail via iCloud and disabled all email clients unter macOS and iOS to make sure the error is not caused on a local end device. Therefore, I must believe the issue occurs on Apple's email servers. Unfortunately, the emails cannot be restored.
