I got a weird notification that a ipad black connected to my apple id. I removed my old ipad black that I haven’t used in years, it maybe has to do with that?

Is this your own old iPad? You can check that via settings>your name>scroll down to the device list. If it is your own iPad it might be re-added, you can delete it from your device list by clicking the device and then tap remove
This could be caused by the VPN yes, as the VPN can show you in Canada while you’re not there.
If it is not an old device of yours it is important to safegaurd your Apple ID. Change your password and turn on 2 factor authentication, if you have not turned that on already.
