Mac Mail mailbox behavior trash mailbox setting never available despite changing

If Trash Mailbox is set to "Deleted Messages" then the folder will change to an empty "Deleted Items". If the setting is changed to "Deleted Items", then the folder changes to an empty Deleted Messages. Thus, the actual deleted items are not available. I have tried restarting Mail and Sonoma 14.2.1 (all updates applied)

Cannot delete "On My Mac" mailbox in Mail v16 in MacOS Monterey I'm just trying to delete a Mail (v16.0) mailbox (which I created long ago) saved in the "On My Mac" section and nothing works. I am don't want to delete a Mail account, just a specific mailbox from which I've already deleted the mail contents: I right-click on the mailbox item in the "On My Mac" section of the lefthand listing, select Delete Mailbox... option, Click delete, and the Mail app crashes! Mailbox still there when I re-open mail. Via Finder, I went into Library/Mail/V9/ found the folder with the mailbox I want to delete, send it to the Trash, empty trash. Reboot Mac, open Mail -- Mailbox is still there. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I just upgraded to Ventura and noticed when I delete inbox mail in Mac Mail, the deleted items do not show up in the Trash folder any longer. Can you please advise me how to fix this issue? The settings in mail preferences are correct. Has anyone who has experienced deleted messages in Mac Mail not appearing in the Trash folder? This happened when I upgraded to Ventura OS. All my preference settings are correct but deleted emails just disappear. If someone has successfully fixed this please respond. Otherwise I will reach out to Mac for help.
