How to search within the Journal app from the iPhone main screen

Is it possible to search for a text term from the iPhone main screen just as you would do with the Notes app?

It would be nice to be able to find references to an item within different apps on the iPhone.

Possible?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17

no, a paper journal doesn’t have a search function but if you’re going to write it digitally, that’s the least they should include. A simple tool that would allow you to find things. I just created my first entry ever and the next thing I did was look for a search field to see if I should include tags for future reference. Come on Apple. Don’t be lazy.

This is the first iteration of the app. It has been my observation that the first iteration of Apple apps is pretty basic. My guess is that they wait to see how people use them and what people ask for.

Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. However, you should let them know what you'd like to see here:

Meanwhile, I'd suggest you take a look at DayOne. It's a very mature journaling app that's available on iPhones, iPads, Macs, through browsers and, in a very limited way on the Apple Watch. And, the iPhone version can use Apple's Journaling prompts and suggestions. So, best of both worlds in my opinion.

I want this too. I hashtagged my first entry hoping that this will be added. We need to be able to reference or search our journal entries. I would like hashtags to call up all journal entries with a same theme. Especially since I plan to use it like notes - and need to be able to find info easily. There’s no way I’ll use the app if I cant readily get back to a past entry🥺

Meanwhile, I highly recommend Day One.

In settings, I made sure my Siri was checked for prefer spoken responses. Then, I asked Siri, “Siri show me my journal entry (entries) with the word ____.” The more specific the word, the fewer number of journal entries Siri returned to me. It’s not a perfect solution but definitely helps until Apple develops (🤞) a search function specifically for the journal app. Hope that helps!

• I think Journal should have:
Time filter criteria (in AND): months, years, days, hours, e.g. March, 2024 or from Mon. May 27, 2024 to Sun. June 2, 2024 or Mondays in May or all of 2024, etc.
• Text search (in AND): regular text matching
• Intelligent search (in AND): like the text search in the iOS Photo app, e.g.: give me all instances where I published a photo with a cat, a car, a bottle, with Cristina, etc...
