Is it possible to search for a text term from the iPhone main screen just as you would do with the Notes app?
It would be nice to be able to find references to an item within different apps on the iPhone.
Possible?

This is the first iteration of the app. It has been my observation that the first iteration of Apple apps is pretty basic. My guess is that they wait to see how people use them and what people ask for.

Meanwhile, I'd suggest you take a look at DayOne. It's a very mature journaling app that's available on iPhones, iPads, Macs, through browsers and, in a very limited way on the Apple Watch. And, the iPhone version can use Apple's Journaling prompts and suggestions. So, best of both worlds in my opinion.

A simple search facility would be very helpful. I’m sure the clever people at Apple can add this feature to the new Journal app very easily.
I’ve been hashtag’ing my entries assuming I’d be able to search back. Simple has tags like #happy and #sad would make it easy to search back and look at what was happening at these times and help reflect and learn.

I believe a Journal is not born to organize things. We have Note app to do that.
We use Journal to reflect and clarify our thoughts, to connect with ourselves, like a diary. And we don’t have search function in a paper diary, right?
However, I think it would be useful to have the filter by time for we to check a specific period of time.
is there a bug report/feature request area in these forums?
I noticed when editing a previous entry, positioning the cursor somewhere in the middle of a text, and then trying to dictate new thoughts, the cursor irritatingly persists on jumping to the bottom of the page, causing the new information to be in the wrong place.
I want this too. I hashtagged my first entry hoping that this will be added. We need to be able to reference or search our journal entries. I would like hashtags to call up all journal entries with a same theme. Especially since I plan to use it like notes - and need to be able to find info easily. There’s no way I’ll use the app if I cant readily get back to a past entry🥺

I couldn’t agree more that having a search function for journal is fundamental to using a long-term. I submitted feedback to Apple about it, and I really appreciate the link you included to make it easy. Thanks!
